Final Grade Calculator

Find out what score you need on your final exam to hit your desired grade.

Required Final Score (%)

How the required final score is calculated

The formula works backwards from your target grade. If your final exam is worth 30% of your grade, then your current work accounts for the other 70%. The calculator solves for the score you need on the final so that the weighted combination of your current grade and final score equals your desired overall grade. A result above 100 means you would need extra credit; a result below 0 means you have already secured the desired grade no matter what you score.

Enter your current grade as a percentage (for example, 82 for 82%), the weight of the final exam as a percentage of your total grade (for example, 30 for 30%), and the overall grade you want to achieve. The result updates as you type.

FAQ

What if the required score is over 100? That means you cannot achieve the desired grade even with a perfect final, given your current standing. Consider adjusting your desired grade target.

What if the required score is negative? You have already earned enough points that even a score of 0 on the final would meet your goal. You can relax — or aim even higher.

Can I use this for midterms or other exams? Yes. Just enter the weight of any upcoming exam and treat your current grade as everything scored so far.
