The leap year rule
A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4 — except for years divisible by 100, which are only leap years if they are also divisible by 400. That is why 2000 was a leap year but 1900 and 2100 are not. This rule, from the Gregorian calendar, keeps our dates accurate to within one day over roughly 3,000 years.
