The first year of a cat’s life is roughly equal to 15 human years, the second year brings the total to about 24, and every year after that adds around 4 human years. So a 3-year-old cat is about 28 in human terms, and a 10-year-old cat is roughly 56.

Why isn’t one cat year just seven human years? The “×7” rule is a myth. Cats age very fast early in life and then slow down, so a flat multiplier does not match how they actually mature.
When is a cat considered a senior? Cats are generally considered mature around 7–10 years (about 44–56 human years) and senior from around 11 years onward.
Does breed or lifestyle change the result? Yes. This calculator uses a standard average; an indoor cat in good health may age more slowly than the chart suggests, while other factors can speed it up.
